In every aspect of life, creativity is important: whether you are completing a project at work, brainstorming ideas in a study group, or simply making art for fun. But did you know that being creative also provides a host of benefits? Check them out below:

Pursuing creative activities are linked to a reduced risk of degenerative diseases

In a four year study piloted by Mayo Clinic, it was discovered that individuals who had creative outlets like sewing, painting, and woodworking were less likely to develop Alzheimers and Dementia. The calming effects of participating in these activities and the socializing that comes with them improves overall well-being. As a result, being creative isn’t just fun—it comes with physiological benefits, too!

Creativity helps in the workplace

With time, creativity has reached the forefront of success in the workplace. It increases productivity, promotes collaboration between employees, and is easy to implement! At Bamrec, we encouraged the creativity of our summer coaches by participating in a group painting lesson with a local artist. Not only did we end the day with beautiful art pieces, but our team dynamic also grew immensely!

Being creative increases happiness

The beauty of creativity is that you can express it in many different ways: editing a video, writing a journal entry, cooking a new recipe, or simply dancing around your room. No matter the way you express yourself, there are positive effects; studies have found a link between creative expression and overall happiness. When processing your emotions and feelings through creative means, you are encouraging a healthy state of mind that will benefit other aspects of your life.
