As we near the end of 2020, a universal thought is in the minds of many: time for new year's resolutions. A new year welcomes new changes, and if you have been on the fence about making a list of goals, this is your sign to do it. Creating goals is a powerful way to make change in the parts of your life you want to see improvement. Here are some of the benefits of setting goals for yourself!
By putting down your objectives to reach a certain goal, you will know the exact steps needed to reach that point. Writing down your goals on paper or online will lay out everything in an organized manner, making it clear where your energy should be invested. For example, when comparing having a pre-planned 2021 weekly fitness schedule to simply promising to get fit next year, the former does a much better job at optimizing your time.
Holds You Accountable
When tracking goals, the importance of following through becomes a priority— now you have something to cross out once it's complete. This will encourage you to stay motivated through the process of reaching a goal, no matter how short or long-term it may be.
Helps You Track Progress
One of the greatest reasons New Year’s Resolutions fall through is because goals are too vague: “I’ll learn spanish,” “I will eat healthier,” “I’ll try something new.” These ambiguous statements make goal-reaching hard, since there is no clear starting point. Writing down your goals and thoroughly planning them out lays out the journey ahead. In this way, you will have the ability to track your progress, and move at a pace that is most suitable to you.
For the next month, take the time to brainstorm goals for the upcoming year. As we close the chapter of 2020, the future only holds potential for success!
